Episode 167: Unpopular Opinion from a Therapist: Therapy Doesn’t “Fix” You

It is a fairly common belief that therapy fixes people. As a therapist I'm hear to tell you that it won't. I think most therapists would agree with me on this, but people who are not therapists may not. So let me explain.

When clients come to therapy for the first time I frequently hear them say, “Fix me!” I get it! You have a mental or emotional health problem and you need it fixed, so you call a therapist. Trust me when I say, I'm glad you did! But there are three big reasons why therapy doesn’t fix you or your problems. In this episode I am explaining what those are and what therapy will actually do for you.
